{"id":1790,"date":"2021-03-30T14:40:03","date_gmt":"2021-03-30T14:40:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/powertasting.com\/?p=1790"},"modified":"2021-03-30T14:40:03","modified_gmt":"2021-03-30T14:40:03","slug":"visiting-geyserville","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/powertasting.com\/?p=1790","title":{"rendered":"Visiting Geyserville"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The way that California allocates postal addresses, a great wide swath of the northern end of Dry Creek Valley is officially listed as Geyserville.\u00a0 So such redoubtable wineries as <a href=\"http:\/\/powertasting.com\/?p=64\">David Coffaro<\/a>, Dutchers Crossing and <a href=\"http:\/\/powertasting.com\/?p=381\">Sbragia Family<\/a> all have addresses there, even though they are far from \u201cdowntown\u201d Geyserville.\u00a0 The quote marks are used because the actual downtown area on Geyserville Avenue is only about two blocks long.<\/p>\n<p>We would not recommend Geyserville as a destination on its own merits, but if you are tasting in the area, there is a certain charm that\u2019s worth taking in.\u00a0 While the town contains all the modern appurtenances, there\u2019s still enough left of ol\u2019 time Geyserville to give you an idea of what Sonoma County\u2019s Wine Country used to be.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/powertasting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/geyserville1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-1791\" src=\"http:\/\/powertasting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/geyserville1-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"663\" height=\"497\" srcset=\"http:\/\/powertasting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/geyserville1-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/powertasting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/geyserville1.jpg 450w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 663px) 100vw, 663px\" \/><\/a><em>Photo courtesy of Sonoma County Tourism<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The most notable taste of the past is a store with a large sign proclaiming it to be Geo. M. Bosworth &amp; Son, General Merchandise.\u00a0 There\u2019s another sign in the window that lets you know that they sell Gents\u2019 Furnishings and Notions.\u00a0 This is the general store you\u2019ve read about and seen in old Westerns and if you\u2019re in the market for a cowboy hat this is the place for you.\u00a0 And if you want that hat to be custom crushed, they\u2019ll do that, too.\u00a0 Today, Bosworth &amp; Son is also a museum and a gift shop and there\u2019s a statue of a horse out front.<\/p>\n<p>There are a few tasting rooms on Geyserville Avenue, among them Meeker and Pech Merle.\u00a0 Three in particular stand out.\u00a0 Tonti Family and Etrusca share a tasting room and call themselves Duo Vini I Bocce.\u00a0 That\u2019s right \u2013 you can taste their wines and play bocce.\u00a0 Further down the avenue is Ramazotti.\u00a0 Together, they are a reminder that this area (all of Napa\/Noma, actually) was settled in the 19<sup>th<\/sup> and early 20<sup>th<\/sup> centuries by Italian immigrants. They brought with them a winemaking tradition and replanted it in Northern California soil.\u00a0 Ramazotti in particular features Italian wines such as Barbera and Sangiovese that are quite convincing reproductions of the Italian originals.\u00a0 These wineries provide visitors with another hint of California history.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/powertasting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/geyserville2.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-1792\" src=\"http:\/\/powertasting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/geyserville2-300x161.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"661\" height=\"355\" srcset=\"http:\/\/powertasting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/geyserville2-300x161.png 300w, http:\/\/powertasting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/geyserville2.png 624w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 661px) 100vw, 661px\" \/><\/a><em>Photo courtesy of mycatellis.com<\/em><\/p>\n<p>We first started coming to Geyserville to dine in a restaurant called Santi.\u00a0 The food was remarkably good and the restaurant was recommended to us by many winemakers.\u00a0 Alas, it closed more than a decade ago; another restaurant named Catelli\u2019s occupies the same place, and we have not tried it yet.\u00a0 But here\u2019s the back story:\u00a0 There was another Catelli\u2019s \u201cthe Rex\u201d that was opened in 1936 by <em>Santi<\/em> and Virginia Catelli.\u00a0 The owners, Nick and Domenica Catelli are lineal descendants of the original founders.
