{"id":2027,"date":"2022-01-29T20:08:08","date_gmt":"2022-01-29T20:08:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/powertasting.com\/?p=2027"},"modified":"2023-07-27T15:56:38","modified_gmt":"2023-07-27T15:56:38","slug":"dry-creek-vineyard","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/powertasting.com\/?p=2027","title":{"rendered":"Dry Creek Vineyard"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We\u2019ve written about Dry Creek Vineyard (<a href=\"about:blank\">www.drycreekvineyard.com<\/a>) <a href=\"http:\/\/powertasting.com\/?p=102\">before,<\/a> but in a different context.\u00a0 We\u2019re very fond of this winery and have visited there often.\u00a0 This year marks their 50<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary, which is quite an achievement, and they have been family-run for all that time, which makes the achievement even sweeter.\u00a0 In the interests of openness, we have to say that we\u2019re members of their wine club, but as we often note, we don\u2019t review wine.\u00a0 <em>Power Tasting<\/em> is about the wine tasting experience.<\/p>\n<p>The theme on Dry Creek\u2019s attractive labels is sailing.\u00a0 As a club member, you can enjoy one of their many member events; pre-pandemic one of them was a sailing day in the San Francisco Bay. Of all the wineries that we know, there is none that has as many club member events as Dry Creek.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/powertasting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/dry_creek2.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-2028 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/powertasting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/dry_creek2-300x200.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"649\" height=\"432\" srcset=\"http:\/\/powertasting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/dry_creek2-300x200.png 300w, http:\/\/powertasting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/dry_creek2.png 624w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 649px) 100vw, 649px\" \/><\/a><em>The Dry Creek Vineyard winery.\u00a0 Photo courtesy of the winery.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>And we find that there are many reasons to visit the winery and indulge in a tasting.\u00a0 We do enjoy Dry Creek (the valley) and often spend a day or more in that region of Wine Country.\u00a0 When we do, Dry Creek (the winery) is always on our itinerary.\u00a0 Like much of this region, Dry Creek Vineyard specializes in Zinfandel.\u00a0 They are well known for Sauvignon Blanc and they make some creditable Cabernet Sauvignons and blends as well.<\/p>\n<p>One aspect of a tasting at Dry Creek that is rather unique is that they make seven single-vineyard Zinfandels and four different Bordeaux blends.\u00a0 Not all are available for tasting at any given time, but it\u2019s rare to have the opportunity to compare side-by-side the same grapes made into wine by the same winemaker (Tim Bell).\u00a0 If nothing else, it gets you thinking about the relative influence of winemaking artistry and <em>terroir<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The tasting room is in a vine-covered stone building, fronted by an extensive lawn and some of Dry Creek\u2019s vines.\u00a0 That lawn is a great attraction.\u00a0 It has shade trees, picnic tables and some lawn games for the kids.\u00a0 They\u2019ve even put in a bocce court.\u00a0 It is meant to be welcoming and family-friendly.\u00a0 We have often seen little ones running around outside while their parents sipped and had lunch at nearby tables.<\/p>\n<p>If you do want to have a little picnic, there\u2019s a special advantage at Dry Creek.\u00a0 They\u2019re only four minutes\u2019 walk, according to Google, from the <a href=\"http:\/\/powertasting.com\/?p=938\">Dry Creek General Store<\/a>, so you don\u2019t have to pack a picnic in advance.\u00a0 Of course, in California no one walks so it\u2019s a one-minute drive.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/powertasting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/dry_creek3.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2029 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/powertasting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/dry_creek3-300x205.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"631\" height=\"431\" srcset=\"http:\/\/powertasting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/dry_creek3-300x205.png 300w, http:\/\/powertasting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/dry_creek3.png 624w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 631px) 100vw, 631px\" \/><\/a><em>Dry Creek\u2019s \u201cinsect garden\u201d.\u00a0 Photo courtesy of the winery.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Another reason to visit Dry Creek is what they call their \u201cinsectary garden\u201d.\u00a0 \u00a0To be honest, the name put us off for quite a few visits.\u00a0 Eventually we came to recognize that Dry Creek is rather committed to sustainable farming, and insects form a part of the biosystem that they intend to preserve.\u00a0 All very scientific, to be sure, but for the visitor it\u2019s a pretty little garden to walk around in just in front of the grape vines.<\/p>\n<p>In these pandemic times, visits are by appointment only.\u00a0 We can only hope that the disease will pass and the ability to just drop in will return.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We\u2019ve written about Dry Creek Vineyard (www.drycreekvineyard.com) before, but in a different context.\u00a0 We\u2019re very fond of this winery and have visited there often.\u00a0 This year marks their 50th anniversary, which is quite an achievement, and they have been family-run for all that time, which makes the achievement even sweeter.\u00a0 In the interests of openness, &hellip;
