{"id":528,"date":"2017-03-29T13:52:13","date_gmt":"2017-03-29T13:52:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/powertasting.com\/?p=528"},"modified":"2017-06-19T19:56:22","modified_gmt":"2017-06-19T19:56:22","slug":"hartford-family-winery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/powertasting.com\/?p=528","title":{"rendered":"Hartford Family Winery"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hartford Family Winery (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.hartfordwines.com\/\">http:\/\/www.hartfordwines.com\/<\/a>) actually has two tasting rooms, one at the winery itself in the Russian River area and another on the plaza in the center of Healdsburg in Sonoma County.\u00a0 In keeping with the theme of this issue, we are reporting here on the in-town tasting room.\u00a0 It is on the corner next to the Healdsburg Hotel (specifically the Dry Creek Kitchen restaurant in the hotel) and catty-corner from the park.\u00a0 The interior is bright and sunny, with a bar area up front and large room in the back that would appear to be a graceful dining room in a country house.\u00a0 Except it\u2019s not a dining room and you&#8217;re not in the country; you\u2019re in a bustling town.\u00a0 Indoors or at their tables outside, all tastings are seated ones.<\/p>\n<p>Here a server will bring you taste after taste from their list, which is actually a pretty concise one: Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Zinfandel.\u00a0 90% of their wines are from estate-grown grapes and while the winery is in Forrestville in the Russian River AVA, the vineyards are there, in Carneros, Sonoma Coast and other places as far afield as Oregon.\u00a0 So although they only deal in wine from three grapes, the choice of Hartford Family wines is actually quite a wide one.<\/p>\n<p>(Just to confuse matters, many of the Hartford <em>Family<\/em> wines are marketed with the label of Hartford <em>Court<\/em>.\u00a0 For many years we thought they were two different wineries.)<\/p>\n<p>We actually think the wines are very good, and we suppose we wouldn\u2019t enjoy visiting Hartford Family so much if we didn\u2019t think so.\u00a0 But to be honest, that\u2019s not the reason we love this wine tasting experience.\u00a0 Taste indoors if you\u2019d like, but the real joy of visiting Hartford Family is sitting at one of the tables that run along the pedestrian walkway between the tasting room and the hotel, facing the park.\u00a0 If it\u2019s raining or very cold (which does happen occasionally), indoor tasting is your only option.\u00a0 But we were there recently on a sunny afternoon in February and found that a visit to Hartford Family\u2019s Healdsburg location leads to the most relaxing wine tasting experience we have ever had.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/powertasting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/hartford_family1.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-529\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-529 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/powertasting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/hartford_family1-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"hartford_family1\" width=\"392\" height=\"221\" srcset=\"http:\/\/powertasting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/hartford_family1-300x169.jpg 300w, http:\/\/powertasting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/hartford_family1-768x432.jpg 768w, http:\/\/powertasting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/hartford_family1-1024x576.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 392px) 100vw, 392px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>There you are, looking up at the century-old trees in the town square, being served exquisite wines, not being rushed, people-watching the tourists and the locals alike.\u00a0 The thought that crossed our minds was simple: Life is good.<\/p>\n<p>Since the service staff isn\u2019t large and they need to keep going from table to table, there\u2019s not a lot of time for questions and conversation with your servers.\u00a0 They seemed knowledgeable about their wines and were amazingly able to remember what wine came next for each table.\u00a0 But we found that the wine spoke for itself and that we were so busy not being busy at all that the time just passed away.
