{"id":693,"date":"2017-08-30T22:02:50","date_gmt":"2017-08-30T22:02:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/powertasting.com\/?p=693"},"modified":"2019-04-03T19:15:23","modified_gmt":"2019-04-03T19:15:23","slug":"ved-stranden-10-copenhagen","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/powertasting.com\/?p=693","title":{"rendered":"ved Stranden 10, Copenhagen"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Many of the world\u2019s great cities have landmarks that are central to their images.\u00a0 Tourists and locals alike gather at the Eifel Tower, Big Ben, the Coliseum and Time Square.\u00a0 Other cities without such internationally known monuments offer something different; they\u2019re great hanging out cities.\u00a0 San Diego is one; so are Milan, Amsterdam and Madrid.\u00a0 Let us introduce you to yet another, Copenhagen, and in particular a wine taster\u2019s destination bar known by its address, ved Stranden 10.<\/p>\n<p>First about the city.\u00a0 The most famous locale in Copenhagen is Nyhavn, which is a long harbor, mostly for fishing and tourism boats.\u00a0 All the buildings along the harbor are brightly colored and alongside is a long row of cafes under welcoming umbrellas.\u00a0 Of course it\u2019s full of tourists, but you find Danes there as well, especially at night. As we said, it\u2019s a great place to hang out.\u00a0 But so are the sidewalk restaurants on Gothersgade; the big square in the fashionable shopping district, in the middle of H\u00f8jbro Plads (or Place); and the Street Food center across the main harbor.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-694 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/powertasting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/IMG_4397-2-300x234.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"368\" height=\"287\" srcset=\"http:\/\/powertasting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/IMG_4397-2-300x234.jpg 300w, http:\/\/powertasting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/IMG_4397-2-768x600.jpg 768w, http:\/\/powertasting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/IMG_4397-2-1024x800.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 368px) 100vw, 368px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Nyhavn, Copenhagen\u2019s \u201cnew harbor\u201d, only 300 years old<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Which brings us to ved Stranden 10 (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.vedstranden10.dk\/\">http:\/\/www.vedstranden10.dk\/<\/a>). It\u2019s located alongside a canal \u00a0and from the outside, it\u2019s an unassuming building on a quiet little street.\u00a0 In warm weather, they have tables outside along the canal.\u00a0 Ved Stranden 10 is a wine store and also a wine bar.\u00a0 Inside, there\u2019s a very small bar up front with pourers, waiters and customers scurrying about like mad.\u00a0 There are a few tables and stools along one wall, but for the most part all you can do in the bar is stand and order.\u00a0 There are several more rooms that are far more like someone\u2019s rather chic Danish Modern living room than a wine bar.<\/p>\n<p>So far, so nice.\u00a0 What differentiates ved Stranden 10 from all other wine bars we\u2019ve ever been to, is that most of the waiters are sommeliers and that there is no wine list!\u00a0 Instead, you negotiate with your waiter.\u00a0 He or she will ask, \u201cWhat do you feel like drinking?\u201d.\u00a0 Maybe one wants a light white, somewhat austere, not very fruit forward and the other a robust red, chewy and full of fruit.\u00a0 (That would be Lucie and Steve, respectively.)\u00a0 The waiter will get a few glasses and bottles and pour little tastes.\u00a0 \u201cDoes this work for you?\u201d\u00a0 If so, your glass will be filled.\u00a0 If not, he or she will go get something else.\u00a0 No one goes away disappointed.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/powertasting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/IMG_4507.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-696 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/powertasting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/IMG_4507-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"380\" height=\"253\" srcset=\"http:\/\/powertasting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/IMG_4507-300x200.jpg 300w, http:\/\/powertasting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/IMG_4507-768x512.jpg 768w, http:\/\/powertasting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/IMG_4507-1024x683.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 380px) 100vw, 380px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Inside ved Stranden 10<\/em><\/p>\n<p>You can\u2019t say, \u201cI\u2019ll have a Pinot Noir\u201d or a Bordeaux or a Sauvignon Blanc. They don\u2019t work that way.
