{"id":1548,"date":"2020-04-30T13:59:45","date_gmt":"2020-04-30T13:59:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/powertasting.com\/?p=1548"},"modified":"2020-04-30T14:00:00","modified_gmt":"2020-04-30T14:00:00","slug":"testing-your-glasses","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/powertasting.com\/?p=1548","title":{"rendered":"Testing Your Glasses"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Of course, you can always taste wine at home.\u00a0 We do so every day, with our dinner.\u00a0 But that\u2019s not the same thing as a wine tasting.\u00a0 A true wine tasting requires more than glasses and bottles.\u00a0 It requires <em>attention<\/em> to the aromas and tastes that emanate from your glass, to the way the glass affects your senses, to the color and viscosity of the liquid and, most of all, to the pleasure one wine gives as differentiated from another.<\/p>\n<p>So since you won\u2019t be in a winery\u2019s tasting room in the immediate future, here\u2019s an idea for having a wine tasting experience in the comfort of your own home.\u00a0 It will work at any time, and we have tried it out in the past.\u00a0 It\u2019s particularly fun in these difficult days.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/powertasting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/glasses2.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1549 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/powertasting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/glasses2-300x150.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"628\" height=\"314\" srcset=\"https:\/\/powertasting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/glasses2-300x150.png 300w, https:\/\/powertasting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/glasses2-768x384.png 768w, https:\/\/powertasting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/glasses2.png 850w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 628px) 100vw, 628px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Photo courtesy of Wine Cooler Direct.<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Choose your glasses.<\/strong> If you\u2019re like us, you probably have a lot of wine glasses.\u00a0 Some are for everyday use, others for special occasions.\u00a0 Maybe you have some for reds, others for whites and still others for Champagne.\u00a0 And perhaps there a few of those little tasting glasses that you might use for dessert wines. For this experience, choose several of them.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Choose a wine you know you enjoy<\/strong>. This is no fun with plonk.\u00a0 (Oh, that\u2019s right, you don\u2019t have any plonk in your cellar.)\u00a0 No matter how fancy the glass, lousy wine is never going to taste good.\u00a0 Now pour some of the chosen wine into each glass.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Experience the wines in each glass<\/strong>. This is the real effort you need to make.\u00a0 Don\u2019t just sniff and sip.\u00a0 Think about what you\u2019re doing and how the same wine differs from glass to glass.\u00a0 Smell the wine in each glass before tasting any.\u00a0 Really breathe them in.\u00a0 Notice any differences?\u00a0 Try to put those into words.\u00a0 Now do the same after tasting each one.\u00a0 Discuss with your significant other.\u00a0 We have been surprised how much aroma we get from a tasting glass. This is because of the shape of the glass, which wraps around your nose while smelling the wine.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Decide which glass you prefer<\/strong> and use that glass for the rest of the bottle.
