{"id":2122,"date":"2022-06-29T14:15:38","date_gmt":"2022-06-29T14:15:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/powertasting.com\/?p=2122"},"modified":"2022-06-29T14:15:38","modified_gmt":"2022-06-29T14:15:38","slug":"love-lane-mattituck","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/powertasting.com\/?p=2122","title":{"rendered":"Love Lane, Mattituck"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Yeah, the name of this place to visit when you go wine tasting on the North Fork is just too, too cute.\u00a0 Evidently, back in the mists of time, it was a simple trail that came to be known as the local lovers\u2019 lane and the name, with a little editing, has stuck.\u00a0 For the visitor to the North Fork, primarily interested in wine tasting, it offers several reasons to stop.<\/p>\n<p>First, and perhaps foremost, it\u2019s a place midway between Riverhead and Greenport where you can get something to eat.\u00a0 Of course, if you\u2019re going to be sipping wine all day, it\u2019s important to put some food in your stomach.\u00a0 So if you\u2019ve visited one or two wineries already, you\u2019d better stop and Love Lane is really the only place to go.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/powertasting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/love-lane.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-2123 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/powertasting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/love-lane-300x200.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"612\" height=\"408\" srcset=\"https:\/\/powertasting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/love-lane-300x200.png 300w, https:\/\/powertasting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/love-lane.png 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 612px) 100vw, 612px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Photo courtesy of the New York Times.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>There are two dining spots to choose from, Ammirati\u2019s and Love Lane Kitchen.\u00a0 With no criticism of the former, we keep going back to Love Lane Kitchen.\u00a0 It\u2019s the sort of eatery where everybody seems to know everybody, welcomes one another by first name and always has time for a cup of coffee.\u00a0 There always seem to be a few moms with youngsters trying hard not to be noisy.\u00a0 The menu is primarily sandwiches and salads, although breakfast can still be had through lunch time.<\/p>\n<p>Oh, and the cakes are made by Mom.<\/p>\n<p>Besides the food, there is an attraction to Love Lane that is more atmospheric than commercial.\u00a0 The street is three blocks long but everything you might want to see is on only one of those blocks.\u00a0 It hearkens back to a small-town America that may never have been quite so shined up for the tourists but that nevertheless was and still is real.\u00a0 Trees line the street.\u00a0 There are places to park.\u00a0 The shops have old-timey storefronts.\u00a0 And there\u2019s a charming white clapboard church at one end of the street.<\/p>\n<p>The shops on Love Lane do reflect the sensibilities of wine tasting tourists.\u00a0 Lombardi\u2019s Love Lane Market is the sort of gourmet grocery that would be right at home in New York City.\u00a0 So are the cheese shop, the boutiques and the sweet shop(pe).\u00a0 But they don\u2019t have the feel of bits of Manhattan that people have dragged with them out to the country.\u00a0 Locals patronize here as well, and they all stay open in the winter.<\/p>\n<p>Sure, lots of countries have small towns.\u00a0 In Bordeaux or Burgundy there are also little villages, each with <em>un caf\u00e9<\/em>, <em>une \u00e9picerie<\/em> and <em>une \u00e9glise<\/em>.\u00a0 But those are French caf\u00e9s, groceries and churches.\u00a0 This is unmistakably an American small town, with a vibe more New England than Big Apple.<\/p>\n<p>The other end of Long Island is Brooklyn, definitely urban.\u00a0 The North Fork is rural and Love Lane is a corner of that lifestyle, only two hours away.\u00a0 It is a destination in the sense that you would come there to have lunch and then stroll around.\u00a0 If you don\u2019t pop into every store or the wine tasting room that\u2019s right there, you can see it all in ten minutes.\u00a0 But those are ten well-spent minutes.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Yeah, the name of this place to visit when you go wine tasting on the North Fork is just too, too cute.\u00a0 Evidently, back in the mists of time, it was a simple trail that came to be known as the local lovers\u2019 lane and the name, with a little editing, has stuck.\u00a0 For the &hellip;
