{"id":2160,"date":"2022-08-29T13:24:59","date_gmt":"2022-08-29T13:24:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/powertasting.com\/?p=2160"},"modified":"2022-08-29T13:24:59","modified_gmt":"2022-08-29T13:24:59","slug":"visiting-beaune","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/powertasting.com\/?p=2160","title":{"rendered":"Visiting Beaune"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If you are a true wine lover, then at some point in your life you have to go wine tasting in Burgundy.\u00a0 Now, Burgundy is a big place and it includes winemaking areas such as Chablis, Beaujolais and Mercurey, all sources for very fine wine.\u00a0 But when people think of Burgundy what they really have in mind is the fabled <em>C\u00f4te d\u2019Or<\/em>, French for the Gold Coast.\u00a0 That\u2019s where the Grand Cru Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs come from.\u00a0 It runs from Dijon (of mustard fame) in the north to a cluster of villages on the road to Chalons to the south.<\/p>\n<p>And smack in the middle is the town of Beaune.<\/p>\n<p>Anyone who goes wine tasting in the C\u00f4te d\u2019Or will pass through or around Beaune.\u00a0 For many visitors, Beaune is simply a starting point for going somewhere else.\u00a0 Mostly they\u2019re going to villages that equate to wines, like Nuit St. Georges, Gevrey-Chambertin, Volnay, Pommard or Montrachet.\u00a0 We would like to recommend that you stop a while in Beaune itself.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/powertasting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/beaune3.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-2162 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/powertasting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/beaune3-300x182.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"671\" height=\"407\" srcset=\"https:\/\/powertasting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/beaune3-300x182.png 300w, https:\/\/powertasting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/beaune3.png 595w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 671px) 100vw, 671px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>The Place Carnot in Beaune.\u00a0 Photo courtesy of Beaune Tourism.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The center of town is the Place Carnot, named after 19<sup>th<\/sup> century President of France who had the ill luck to be assassinated.\u00a0 There is a small carousel in the middle of that, that in its way says this is pleasant square is in a pleasant town where visitors are always welcome.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/powertasting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/beaune4.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-2163 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/powertasting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/beaune4-300x200.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"601\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/powertasting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/beaune4-300x200.png 300w, https:\/\/powertasting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/beaune4.png 616w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 601px) 100vw, 601px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Cheeses at the shop of Alain Hess.\u00a0 Photo courtesy of Wine Keller.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The square is ringed by shops and cafes.\u00a0 One shop kept bringing us back time after time: Alain Hess, Maitre Fromager (Master Cheesemonger).\u00a0 Charles DeGaulle once questioned how anyone could manage a country with 500 types of cheese.\u00a0 We never counted, but we think you can find all 500 of them at M.
