{"id":629,"date":"2017-06-29T18:12:46","date_gmt":"2017-06-29T18:12:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/powertasting.com\/?p=629"},"modified":"2017-07-18T00:59:26","modified_gmt":"2017-07-18T00:59:26","slug":"amador-county","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/powertasting.com\/?p=629","title":{"rendered":"Amador County"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There are other wines to drink in California&#8217;s Amador County, but the main reason to go wine tasting in this part of Wine Country is to try the Zinfandels they\u2019re famous for.\u00a0 There are wineries all over the county, but the greatest concentration of them is in and around the town of Plymouth, mostly on or just off Shenandoah Road, also known as the Shenandoah Valley, about 50 miles east of Sacramento.<\/p>\n<p>There is also a fair number of wineries about a half hour north of Plymouth in another town called Placerville.\u00a0 We haven\u2019t visited there yet so offer no opinions in this article.\u00a0 If you have\u00a0 several days, by all means try locations other than Plymouth, but we recommend against doing a lot of tasting in one place and then driving for some time to another.\u00a0You mostly drive on small roads.\u00a0 Keep it easy and keep it safe.<\/p>\n<p>While many of the wineries have built glass and steel tasting rooms, none of them come close to palatial.\u00a0 Many wineries, including some of the more popular ones, are located in wooden buildings.\u00a0 They are hardly sheds, but they do project a rustic ambiance that, overall, describes Amador County.\u00a0 There are a lot of ranches around the county. \u00a0You definitely know you\u2019re in the country when you visit there.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/powertasting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/Helwig.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-630 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/powertasting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/Helwig-300x131.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"380\" height=\"166\" srcset=\"https:\/\/powertasting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/Helwig-300x131.jpg 300w, https:\/\/powertasting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/Helwig.jpg 550w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 380px) 100vw, 380px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Photo courtesy of Helwig Winery<\/em><\/p>\n<p>One \u00a0feature of Amador county wineries is that many of them have restaurants.\u00a0 Among them are Villa Toscana and Renwood.\u00a0 You\u2019d better look for them if you want something to eat because once you\u2019re down the road in the Shenandoah Road it\u2019s a bit of a drive back into town, and event then there aren&#8217;t many places to eat.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/powertasting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/Renwood.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-631 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/powertasting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/Renwood-300x139.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"490\" height=\"227\" srcset=\"https:\/\/powertasting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/Renwood-300x139.jpg 300w, https:\/\/powertasting.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/Renwood.jpg 680w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 490px) 100vw, 490px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Photo courtesy of Renwood Winery<\/em><\/p>\n<p>With the restaurants in the wineries, the wine tasting experience is different. You feel more like being in a bar and grill than in a tasting room.\u00a0 At one place we saw people sitting on bar stools ordering plates of cheese and charcuterie, in another one just besides the tasting room was the restaurant. \u00a0Lucie felt that it was more commercial and that people living around the area go there to party.
